Transform Your Practice: Master the Art of Supporting Families through Pregnancy and Infant Loss
You’re a Good Birthworker
You got into this work to support moms during birth, but pregnancy or infant loss was never on your radar.
You have no idea how to support moms through pregnancy or infant loss.
You don’t know what to say or how to say it.
You really don’t even understand loss, to be honest.
Or maybe you’ve been through loss, yourself, and you don’t know how to separate your experiences from what your client is facing.
Honestly, you’re really unsure how to go about even learning to support a family through a loss – and you don’t really want to think about it, anyway.
Most birthworkers have no idea how to support a family through loss.
And most families find that they are alone, even when they should have had a good support system.
But you can change that.
You can be the gentle, confident support that every single client needs – regardless of the outcome of their birth
I’d love to invite you to Holding Hope

What are loss moms saying?
-
“Loss is hard. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But having supportive people like you made it a tiny bit better.”
-
“[Sarah] has so much knowledge and wisdom in this area. You can tell that [she] really loves loss moms and really wants them to have the best support possible.”
-
“Loss Moms need support like this.”
One out of every three pregnancies end in loss. You WILL have a client face loss sooner or later, and you’d better be prepared.
Moms choose their birth team for a reason. They’re counting on you to help make their birth the best it can be – and that doesn’t change if they have a loss.
As a birthworker, you have the power to add to trauma or to take away from it. Invest now in learning how to be a safe space for your clients – regardless of the outcome of their birth.
Hi! I’m Sarah
I began my journey into birthwork before I ever had my own kids.
But in 2020, my first baby died in my womb. I was already a doula, and yet, I didn’t know the first thing about loss.
As I started researching and desperately looking for anyone who could relate to what I had just been through, I learned that loss is so much more common than I had believed. In fact, one out of every three pregnancies ends in loss.
That number is too high. Especially when compared to the number of birth support people who know how to support a mom through the death of a baby.
So, I narrowed down my own doula practice to focus specifically on loss moms. And in the process, I started supporting other birthworkers as they supported families through loss.
I want every single birthworker to be empowered to hold space and to hold hope for moms as they honor the lives of their babies.
“Doctors, nurses, doulas…none of them know how to support us when our babies die. But all we really need is for someone to sit with us in our grief, and to tell us it’s ok to cry.”
— Kate, loss mom and L&D nurse
Your clients deserve a support person who is ready to hold space for them – no matter the outcome of their birth.

Got Questions?
-
At this point, no. This is the beta launch of the course, so it’s definitely still a work in progress! Hopefully soon, I’ll be able to offer a certification. In that case, current and past students will be the first to know!
-
Again, not right now. I’m learning that a course has to be in circulation for a while before you can go through the process of accreditation. But, again, current and past students will know when I can offer CEUs for this course!
-
It is impossible to cover every single kind of loss in any kind of course. Whole books have been written, which have barely scratched the surface. That being said, this course covers as much as possible, and gives tools to still be able to support families through any kind of loss that is not covered.
-
This course is designed to be completed over about 6-8 weeks. But it is entirely self-paced and can be completed as your schedule allows.
-
There are no formal prerequisites, but a background in supporting pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, or a basic understanding of pregnancy and birth is helpful.
-
Yes, you will have lifetime access to the course materials and resources, allowing you to revisit the content as needed.
Still on the fence?
I get it! This is a big decision, and I’ve already told you that there will be some hard, potentially triggering work involved in this course.
If you’re still really unsure, I’d love to invite you to shoot me a DM on Instagram (my handle is @paldoula). Tell me you’re planning to sign up for Holding Hope, but you have some questions. I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.
